Albino animals

Date: January 26, 2009

Albinism (from Latin albus, “white”) is a form of hypopigmentary congenital disorder, characterized by a partial (in hypomelanism, also known as hypomelanosis) or total (amelanism or amelanosis) lack of melanin pigment in the eyes, skin and hair (or more rarely the eyes alone). Albinism results from inheritance of recessive alleles. The condition is known to affect mammals (including humans), fish, birds, reptiles and amphibians.

Butterfly Effect

Date: January 21, 2009

A butterfly flapping its wings in one part of the world might ultimately cause a hurricane in another part of the world.

~ “Butterfly Effect”, Chaos Theory
The butterfly effect is a phrase that encapsulates the more technical notion of sensitive dependence on initial conditions in chaos theory. Small variations of the initial condition of a nonlinear dynamical system may produce large variations in the long term behavior of the system. So this is sometimes presented as esoteric behavior, but can be exhibited by very simple systems: for example, a ball placed at the crest of a hill might roll into any of several valleys depending on slight differences in initial position.

Regardless of all the philosophy, you can just enjoy in this amazing photo gallery simply on the level of aesthetics. Just have a look at all those beautiful colors and you will have to admit that at the end Mother Nature is the only true artist, and no matter how much and how hard we try we will only make a very nice copy of something that she already made a long time ago.
